Sedbergh is a pretty and
historic market town in the Yorkshire Dales, which has remained unspoilt
by tourism. It is surrounded by beautiful scenery, remote fells and
rivers, yet is only 5 miles from the M6. The Lake District is very close
by, with its stunning mountains, lakes and many amenities.
Sedbergh itself has a good range of
shops and eating places. There are three pubs serving meals, various banks,
prize-winning butcher, Indian restaurant and other places to buy meals,
including home-cooked meals to take away. It is flat, and small enough to walk
around easily and get to know quickly.
The area is an excellent base for walking, and other outdoor activities
including fishing, golf, pony trekking, shooting, bat and badger
watching, and cycling. There are many footpaths all around the area,
many of them low level and easy, especially the riverside walks, but
others challenging. The Howgill Fells rise steeply behind the town.
